Basic Training (kihon)
Basic training is one of the cores of the training in Shotokan. In a typical
training session, everybody does the same things, regardless of the ranks. In
basic, we emphasize a strong, rooted stance, a right course of action, the
source of the power (hips), and the structure of the body.
In a regular class, we usually practise basic exercises for about 15 to 20
minutes.
THE TECHNIQUES IN BASIC TRAINING:
From 1 to 10, 14 to 19 and 21 to 30, all techniques are done in front stance (zenkutsu dachi).
From 11 to 13, all techniques are done in back stance (kokutsu dachi).
From 20 and 21, techniques are done in side stance (kiba dachi).
